Genets are small carnivores related to civets and native to Africa. They are believed to be primitive carnivores that are very similar to the common ancestors of the carnivore evolutionary lineage. They are both nocturnal and somewhat arboreal. That means that they like to come out at night and climb all over their cage enrichment. One resident genet likes to hide on the top door sill, but he is always given away by the 18" tail that dangles below him! These two species eat some fruit as well as meats and insects.
